3 June

Route: Capitol Reef-Hanksville-Goblin Valley SP-Green River-Arches NP.

With a hot cup of coffee brewed in our coffee press mugs, we head out to Goblin Valley SP for breakfast. From deposits laid down 170 million years ago by a vast inland sea, the forces of nature have sculpted unique ‘goblin like’ clay coloured shapes. We walk amongst the grotesque rock figures, admiring and photographing them, with my new wide-angle lens.

It’s impossible to imagine that this dry, hot area is covered with snow in winter. We eat breakfast, cooled by the breeze rising up from the valley of goblins below.

We had considered overnighting at Green River SP, but a last minute change in plans, finds us at Arches NP. We camp at a really good RV park, our little tent dwarfed by the behemoths. The predominant RV in this park are the very rounded, retro looking, stainless steel Airsteams, but there are quite a few, tour bus size, houses on wheels as well.

There was even one with an outside TV, quad bike, off road jeep, a couple of bicycles and 3 sheep dogs………these yanks are nuts.

We catch up on our laundry, try updating the blog and dine on fresh strawberries and bbq seared chicken.
